Position Purpose

The role supports a Senior Financial Planner and Portfolio Managers in providing comprehensive financial planning services to the clients of Stellan Capital. Our clients include a small amount of retail clients with a focus on ultra-high net wealth individuals and families. The role focuses on preparing financial advice, ensuring compliance with regulations, and enhancing client relationships through effective implementation of financial strategies.

 

Accountabilities

Client Support:

  • Assist the Senior Financial Planner and Portfolio Managers in preparing and updating comprehensive financial plans, including retirement planning, tax planning, estate planning, and insurance strategies.
  • Assist in the creation, review and provision of Statements of Advice, Records of Advice, Wholesale Advice documents.
  • Prepare and update client presentation packs and bespoke client presentations.
  • Attend client meetings, document action items, take client phone calls as required and requested and follow up on implementation tasks.
  • Draft client advice emails and newsletters ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Assist with the management and implementation of financial plans by monitoring performance, making adjustments based on client needs and regulatory changes, and ensuring alignment with client goals.
  • Develop bespoke financial solutions that align with clients’ risk tolerance, liquidity needs, and long-term objectives.

Financial Planning Analysis and Advice:

  • Conduct detailed research and analysis on financial planning strategies, including superannuation, tax optimisation, insurance, and estate planning.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations for the Senior Financial Planner and Portfolio Managers, including risk assessments and performance forecasts.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of financial plans, providing insights and recommendations for adjustments based on client goals and regulatory changes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial planning strategies tailored to the needs of retail and ultra-high net worth clients.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and financial planning decisions.
  • Provide administrative support for financial plan implementation and compliance tasks, coordinating with the Operations team to ensure seamless execution of strategies.
  • Ensure all client-facing documents adhere to compliance guidelines, working closely with the compliance team.
  • Provide support on Annual review documentation and finalisation in alignment with the Portfolio.

 

Problem Solving & Decision Making

Required tasks that are performed by this position on a regular basis:

  • Prepare and update client presentation materials based on the latest financial plan performance and regulatory changes.
  • Conduct financial planning analysis and provide recommendations considering the client’s goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Draft client communication ensuring they are clear, accurate, and compliant with regulatory standards.

Types of decisions that are referred to the next level:

  • Any deviations from established policies and procedures, particularly those related to financial planning and client communication.
  • Final approval of advice documents and research reports ensuring they meet the firm’s compliance and quality standards.
  • Major financial planning decisions requiring input from the Senior Financial Planner and Portfolio Managers.

 

Key Internal and External Contacts

External Communications:

  • Clients: Interaction for meeting support, communication, and follow-up on financial plan implementation tasks.
  • Regulatory Bodies: Interaction for ensuring compliance with financial planning regulations and staying updated on regulatory changes.

Internal Communications:

  • Senior Financial Planner and Portfolio Managers: Daily interaction for guidance, task management, and collaboration on financial planning.
  • Compliance Team: Coordination for compliance with regulatory standards and implementation of financial plans.
  • Operations Team: Coordination for financial plan implementation and administrative support to ensure efficient operations.

 

About You

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, accounting, or a related field required.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CFP or CA) preferred but not required.
  • Meet the criteria to be included on the Financial Advisors Register or be working towards meeting that criteria.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years in senior financial planning support or advisory roles preferred but not required.
  • Preferred experience with high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients.

Skills and Competencies:

  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, able to interpret complex financial data, and regulatory changes with a focus on compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, conveying complex information clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Xplan and financial analysis tools, capable of creating detailed reports and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and changing deadlines in a high pressure environment.

Australian Financial Services Requirements:

  • Ensure compliance with the Corporations Act 2001 and ASIC regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes.
  • Adhere to Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) guidelines, ensuring all client advice and communication meet legal standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain industry knowledge and meet CPD requirements.

Dealing with High Net Worth Clients:

  • Understand the unique financial needs and goals of high net worth clients, providing tailored advice and planning strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions, ensuring trust and long-term relationships.
